What do y'all think about feminist critiques of Henry Miller? I just read one that deemed him the "enemy of feminism"!

Mmm as a Feminist & a Henry Miller fan I think He was Feminism.
He was proactive, be involved, do what you have to do & make it Art. How many teenagers found out about SEX reading a smuggled copy of Tropic of Cancer? My intro to Miller was from the goody girl that had marked the pages to read. I didn't get those but that Here was Writing about Freedom.

      Hear Hear Gi Gi!
I concur, as a man who supports feminism as well!
I saw in Gregory Boyd's Textbook collection of 20th century essayists, he described Anais Nin as the mother of modern erotic femininsm.
I wonder what she would have said about"The Enemy of Feminism"?

Anectdotal Brag: In the '70's I was working for an attorney who helped publish a Miller book & invited me to his publishing party for him. I was SOOO excited. Being all about the 'revolution' then I was wearing 5" cork platform shoes that made me 6'1", early punked spiked hair ala Todd Rungren, & a sheer white silk blouse that tied behind my neck in scarves trailing to my but in low riding tight belled levis. So I get to meet Henry Miller towering over him shaking - He looks me up & down &up & says -"Nice!" One word so richly voiced I can still hear his deep resonation. There isn't a Feminist that would not have Quivered....

Mailer quotes from and writes extensively on several of Miller's major feminist critics in _The Prisoner of Sex_. He, of course, found the accusations of Miller "promoting violence" to be ridiculous.

Of course, this subject belies the obvious "well, wait, what the hell is feminism" question, but all that aside...

Erica Jong wrote a fantastic book on this subject called "The Devil At Large". Her "Fear of Flying" has been called the female version of Tropic, so it's an interesting perspective.
